Eight Adult Siblings: Our Annual Gathering

★★★★★

While arranging a family reunion in the Hudson River Valley, we found The Stone Farmhouse in Kingston. David was very helpful describing the property and working with us on dates and sleeping arrangements. There were 8 adults: 4 family members and their spouses. We had a wonderful time during our stay and loved having the Stone Farmhouse and Barn as our base.

The entire property is beautiful and well maintained, with spacious grass areas, lovely flowerbeds, fruit trees and a pond with a fountain and bench. The Stone Farmhouse is both historic and well-suited to a family gathering. The open kitchen and sunny dining area were our favorite places to gather. The living room is also well-furnished and comfortable. The bedrooms in the main house (one downstairs and 2 upstairs) are very nice with newer en-suite bathrooms.

The separate Barn is quite large and original, but has smaller apartments with queen beds and a new en-suite bathrooms downstairs was a lovely surprise. Everyone was delighted to have their own space! The kitchen was very well stocked with the necessary cooking equipment, dishes and platters, a coffee maker and large refrigerator. We cooked in most nights and loved the time together at the great wood farm table looking out at the pretty yard and pond. We enjoyed a fire outside at the fire pit one night after dinner.

The Stone Farmhouse is well-appointed with personal art, games and children’s toys. It feels warm and homey. The location was very central for all of our outings as well as for buying groceries. We visited the Culinary Institute of America, West Point, Rhinebeck, Hudson, Storm King Art Center and the Roosevelt Mansion and Library in Hyde Park. There is so much to do in the Hudson River Valley!

The Stone Farmhouse is the perfect spot and we all loved coming back to “our” house at the end of the day. Thank you for providing us with such a perfect accommodation for our family reunion.

Family Getaway with Young Children

Incredibly charming. Beautifully appointed. Stunning and expansive grounds. The farmhouse itself clearly has a lot of history, and it’s not one of those that’s kept the exterior but gut renovated everything inside. The kitchen’s new and spotless but everything else still feels like an old stone home…just one that’s been beautifully kept up and cared for. The stone arch doorway and charming window seats and massive fireplace are still intact…just watch your head in some of the hallway spaces upstairs. All the beds are quite comfortable and you can tell the host put a lot of thought into the furniture, linens, etc. They do a great job with the understated aesthetics and generally with keeping things clean and tidy.

But the true star is the awe-inspiring outdoor space. From the kitchen and dining room areas, you look out on this large meadow that gently slopes down toward a pond before a wall of massive trees marks the beginning of the small mountain behind. Feels like a Bob Ross painting. It’s a magical place for a family to stay, as the grounds held so many easter egg surprises for our kids (4 and 7). There’s the looong tree swing overlooking the meadow (amazing how much more peaceful and enjoyable this is than a city playground swing), the array of toys and games in the living room, finding frogs around the pond, the paths through a grassy area that they called “the maze”, the big-wheels-style tractor our 4-year-old drove around, and—the barn!

Our kids spent hours there, ascending the climbing wall and dangling from the trapeze-swing. In another part of the barn there are two separate self-contained apartment spaces that we didn’t use.

But honestly, you just want to spend your time outside. We harvested peaches and golden raspberries from the garden. We grilled and ate outside when we could, but even when you don’t you’re right in front of all these windows overlooking the grounds. We flew kites. Brought out the house’s yoga mat. I’d go for a run on the forest trail that leads up a winding path to the mountain peak—it looks like it’s an access road for servicing the cell phone tower on top, but it feels like your own private nature walk. And in the evening when it got chilly, we’d strum the house’s guitar and make s’mores by the fire pit.

It’s just this relaxing, majestic, social space where your kids can run wild for hours while you sit back in an Adirondack chair, breathe deeply and recharge.

Our stay was everything I could have hoped for. Surrounded by beautiful trees and wild life, this truly is the perfect, peaceful getaway. Enjoy your morning coffee and take in the beautiful surroundings outdoors. Head down the path to the tree swing, and enjoy the barn full of outdoors games and activities! And when you're ready to venture out, it's a short drive to hiking trails and the charming downtown. So glad we found this gem. David did an amazing job in making us feel welcomed with thoughtful details. We had a magical stay, and cannot wait to come back to see the fall foliage!
